Why I Like the New Adidas Store

Late last year, Adidas opened a new "brand store" on 5th Ave. and 46th St. in NY. While I kept my eyes open for the technology I know is there, it didn't jump out at me (which isn't a bad thing). But five other aspects of the experience did:

1. Greeters at the entrance who looked happy to be there and to see me

2. Limited edition merchandise that was made in small quantities and only for this store (as explained to me by an employee in a sincere and not sales-y way)

3. Instagram-worthy vignettes that are on-brand and not just life-size athlete mannequins

4. Free wi-fi (here's why this matters) and an extended online selection that's boldly promoted

5. The merchandise itself -- from Originals to new women's apparel (including Stella McCartney) to a wall of Stan Smiths, I liked the assortment much more than what's currently in Nike's new Soho store
